National training in Czech Republic

The event involved 30 citizens who work with Roma community, from the city of Ostrava (Czech Republic),

Location/ Dates: The event took place on 23/04/2021  (Ostrava/Czech Republic),

Short description:  This event gathered public servants from Institutions that in their daily work have contact with Roma Community, such as schools, police officers, social workers etc.  The aim of the event was to speak about culture specifics of Roma, differences and how to work with these differences. How to prevent the frequent confusion of Roma culture with a culture of poverty. The training was held by experienced Roma trainer who works as an adviser for Government Office, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.

Participants beside the learnt Roma culture and history they welcomed the today’s reflection and challenges that the Roma Community face with. They were aware that although there is legal frame and measures sometimes Roma Community is left out. It was spoken the educational performance and trends of segregation that were noted in the country.  As a result of the event participants were more sensitive and agreed that further attempts should be taken in cases where Roma Community face challenges
