Short description: The aim of the event was to debate about the stigmatization of Roma in the Czech Republic and Europe and show a good practice of active participation on democratic processes.
Panel was started by Senad Sakipovski,the president of Institute for Roma and Minorities from Germany who introduced the project and its goals and spoke about the stigmatization of Roma in Europe. Then there was a Roma deputy mayor of the big city in the Czech Republic, who was talking about his journey to high politics and his goals. Then it was a young Roma who was invited to Buckingham Palace by Royal family and Prime Minister of Great Britain to speak about Roma Holocaust. She shared her memorable experience with us. Then there was a Roma lady who is proclaiming Roma Rights while living in New York.
Then there was a debate about the importance of active involvement of Roma in democratic processes.
Participants pointed out that active participation is a crucial for Roma progress especially in time of census in the country. They had opportunity to look at the good models that were presented that also played a good role model in the Community. It was highlighted that Roma political representation matter in the CZ society and further efforts to strengthen the various streams within the Roma community is needed as a prerequisite for Roma progress.
