Study visit: the Social Inclusion of Roma through Participation

Participation: The event involved 63 citizens, including from 15 countries: 7 participants from Albania, 4 from Croatia, 1 from Bosnia and Herzegovina, 5 from Czech Republic, 5 from Germany, 1 from Greece, 5 from Italy, 1 from Latvia, 5 from Romania, 1 from Slovenia, 1 from Spain, 15 from North Macedonia, 1 from Montenegro, 9 from Serbia and 2 from Kosovo.

Location/ Dates: The event took place in online on 25 June 2021.  

The event Online Study visit: the Social Inclusion of Roma through Participation gathered 63 citizens from 15 countries.  Following the direction of the political course outlined of the institutions of the EU, Macedonia is joining the countries that have shown readiness for preparation of such strategic document that promotes principle of active protection of Roma rights. For the country this does not mean just a moral support, but the care for Roma is its legislative duty.

Although, in regards to Roma as ethnic community, the Republic of Macedonia made significant positive step, regarding to other countries, however in the general context of the situation of the Roma people throughout Europe, Macedonia is not an exception.

This study visit is a great opportunity to discover and connect to successful initiatives, and learn more about the social inclusion of Roma in Macedonia, where positive, good practices and experiences will be shared among the relevant actors.

Objective of the study visit are:

  • To learn about the situation of Roma people in Macedonia to understand the challenges they face and their difficulties to access the services available to them;
  • To learn about good practices implemented or still under implementation either by the institution or civic national or international organizations;
  • To stimulate debate of Roma inclusion policies and activities in participants’ countries

Mainly the event had two sessions. The first session ,,The existing policy and governance frameworks for the Social Inclusion of Roma in North Macedonia,, gathered representatives from the Government,             Mr. Elvis Memeti-Advisor for Roma Inclusion in the Government of the RSM;        Mr. Nafi Saracini – Program Manager Delegation of the European Union, Skopje;       Ms. Fatima Osmanovska-President of the Council of the Municipality of Suto Orizari and      Mr.Jalcn Necipov-Associate for preparation of Sessions of the Council of the Municipality of Kocani.

The second session was  named:  The Role of civil society organizations in enhancing the social inclusion of Roma in North Macedonia
